Paddy Daly — the quick-witted and often patient host of VOCM’s flagship call-in program Open Line — has announced his resignation.

Daly, who has been with the Newfoundland and Labrador radio station since 2010, made the announcement off the top of Tuesday’s show.

“For the past little while I’ve been kind of considering what my future might look like,” Daly told his listeners. “And I’ve made the decision that I’m resigning.”

Daly thanked all the listeners — “supporters” and “detractors” — who called in and took part in the show during his tenure.

“That’s what makes the show work, that’s what makes things interesting,” he said.

Daly started with Night Line in 2010, before moving to Backtalk and eventually taking the reins on Open Line. He was a host with Rogers TV prior to making the move to VOCM.

His gig with Open Line saw him take calls from people of all backgrounds — from local politicians and Canadian prime ministers, to average people and outright conspiracy theorists.

CBC News has contacted VOCM to inquire about next steps for the program. This story will be updated when a response is received.
