Adam Schefter Lists Top Candidates for Raiders’ HC Job, Leaves Out 1 Popular Name

Are the Raiders leaning toward hiring Klint Kubiak or Davis Webb?
That’s the popular question right now among Raider Nation, but listening to the latest on ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he either doesn’t see Kubiak as the front runner to get the job or forgot to mention the Seattle offensive coordinator as a top candidate.
“I think the candidates on the Raiders and Bills radar are pretty similar,” Schefter said on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday.
“The Bills feel like they are going to go offense and it feels like Davis Webb, Brian Daboll, Joe Brady [and] Grant Udinksi. That’s what it feels like to me in Buffalo right now. The Raiders, it looks like it could be Davis Webb, Joe Brady’s there today [and] Brian Daboll. The same names in both places.”
“I would think that Josh Allen is going to be more of a drawing card than the Raiders’ situation, but if you love Fernando Mendoza then go take the Raiders’ job and spend the next decade with him.”
Tom Brady raved about Kubiak during Sunday’s game, but in each of his most recent segments on the Raiders’ job, Schefter has failed to mention Kubiak.
Every other media personality seems to believe Kubiak is in the running for the Raiders’ job, but it’s hard to ignore the fact that Schefter keeps passing on opportunities to tie Kubiak to Las Vegas.
On Friday, Sports Illustrated inside Albert Breer explained more on why he thinks Webb might have the inside track to the Vegas job.
“Davis Webb to me might be the most interesting name [for the Raiders]. He’s incredibly well thought of,” Breer said on the Rich Eisen Show.
“He hasn’t coached for very long is the problem. But he played in the league recently. My understanding is he’s got a passing relationship with Tom Brady, but he’s got two offensive coordinator names that I know are on this list that have tight connections to Brady. One is Brian Daboll, who could wind up going to Tennessee as the coordinator or could go to Buffalo as the head coach, but Brian Daboll is one name for Davis Webb.”
“They were together both in New York and Buffalo when Davis was a player, and the other is Kliff Kingsbury, who almost went to Vegas a couple of years ago as a coordinator, who’s tight with Brady,” Breer continued.
“I think Davis Webb has a ton of head coach qualities… I think with Davis, what part of the logic is, do we go in early on a guy, a year early with a guy, bring in an experienced offensive coordinator who can work with the quarterback and just bet on this guy’s upside. So I think Davis Webb has a shot in Vegas under that sort of setup.”
Davis may lack coaching experience, but after the 2025 season, Tom Brady and GM John Spytek may not view that dynamic as an issue.
With the way things played out with Pete Carroll, Brady and Spytek may welcome someone a little more impressionable at head coach.
The other detail we have on Webb’s candidacy is that he has made a particularly strong impression on the Raiders in his first interview.
Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter talked Webb’s interview with the team this week.
“Davis Webb, who is the 30-year-old passing game coordinator for the Broncos, interviewed the other day with the Raiders, and late last night I got some great feedback on the interview. It was told that it was not good. It was phenomenal,” Carpenter said.
“I would just say this, I think the Raiders were very pleasantly surprised. I’m not predicting he’s going to get a second interview, but it would not shock me at all. I asked the person I spoke to, do you think [there] is going to be a second interview? And their exact words were, ‘Wouldn’t be surprised.’ That was exactly how they worded it.”
