Three matches in the English Football League scheduled for Tuesday have been postponed because of the weather as Storm Chandra sweeps across the UK.
The League One fixture between Port Vale and AFC Wimbledon has been called off because of a waterlogged pitch at Vale Park.
Referee Ben Toner carried out an inspection on Tuesday morning and deemed the surface “unplayable”, external because of large amounts of standing water.
Similar issues with the playing surface at Whaddon Road have led to Cheltenham Town’s game against Gillingham in League Two being postponed.
Barrow’s game against Oldham in the fourth tier has also been called off because of safety concerns over high winds at their SO Legal Stadium.
The club made the decision on the recommendation of the safety advisory group with wind speeds and gusts “at a level that present a risk to supporter safety”.
“These conditions affect not only the stadium footprint itself, but also local travel routes and the ability for emergency services to operate effectively if required,” the club said in a statement., external
