Top freshman college basketball players to watch ahead of March Madness
As March Madness approaches, a standout freshman class is already shaping the tournament picture. Here are four rising stars poised to make an impact on the national stage.
UConn men’s basketball’s potential undefeated run through the Big East will meet its latest obstacle tonight.
The No. 3 Huskies will host Providence on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut.
After a relatively disappointing 2024-25 season, which ended with a loss to eventual national champion Florida in the second round, coach Dan Hurley’s team has positioned itself nicely for a third title in the past four years. UConn has won 15 straight games since a 71-67 loss at home to No. 1 Arizona all the way back on Nov. 19. The Huskies have been challenged lately, though, with two of their past five victories coming in overtime, including a 103-98 win at Providence on Jan. 7.
The Friars enter their rematch against UConn in desperate need of a win. Under third-year head coach Kim English, Providence has lost seven of its past nine games, all of which have come in conference play. Three of those setbacks came in overtime.
