Piers Morgan’s wife, Celia Walden, provided a health update on her husband during Wednesday’s This Morning.

Earlier this month, Piers, 60, disclosed that he had been admitted to hospital following a trip over “a small step” at a London hotel restaurant.

The journalist and broadcaster, who presents his Piers Morgan Uncensored programme on YouTube, explained he had fractured his femur in the accident and required a hip replacement.

Posting to Instagram on 18 January, Piers uploaded a photograph of himself in hospital. He wrote: “BREAKING NEWS 1. Tripped on a small step. 2. Inside a London hotel restaurant. 3. Fell like a sack of spuds. 4. Fractured neck of femur. 5. So badly I needed a new hip. 6. Recovering in hospital. 7. Crutches for 6 weeks. 8. No long-haul flying for 12 weeks. 9. New Year off to a cracking start! 10. I blame Donald Trump.”

Last week, Piers confirmed he was home, posting on Instagram: “Back home. Love my Breaking News @coolcrutches – thanks so much @noholdenback and Chris. Perfect timing as President Trump is making a lot of breaking news in Davos.”, reports the Daily Star.

And just yesterday, Piers even made his return to work, stating: “Back in the game. New episode dropping tonight, hosted from my home with a new bionic hip. @piersmorganuncensored.”

During Wednesday’s This Morning, Celia, 50, joined the programme to discuss the day’s headlines, where conversation turned to her husband Piers. Celia said: “A little stumble on the shallowest step that you could imagine. It’s amazing how the worst injuries are always the tiniest things, aren’t they?”.

She added: “So, yeah, he wasn’t drunk. And I want to make sure that everybody knows that. Because the messages coming in are just constant kind of, ‘long lunch, was it?’ And I was like, ‘no, it was a coffee!’ But he didn’t see it [the step].

“Apparently, according to the surgeon, they said that if you just fall in that particular way on your side… anyway, he cracked his femur right across the neck and then had to have an emergency hip replacement.”

When questioned about how Piers was coping as a patient, Celia responded: “I mean, what do you think? Let’s just say that the messages flooding in have predominantly been, ‘never mind him, how are you doing?'”

She continued: “Yeah, so it’s been a long, painful few days… for Piers, too. But he’s… I mean, it’s reached a stage where he’s got slightly snappy now because he’s very impatient.

“Of course, he can’t access the things he wants to and the snappier he gets with me, the more I turn into Kathy Bates from Misery.

“I’ve started slightly moving the remote control out of reach and then leaving Love Island on TV. There are little ways that you can get your own back.”

Providing another update, she revealed: “It takes about three months, I think, to be back into… until he can play golf”, adding: “It’s a very long time, I know!”

Celia then jested that she’s seeking any excuse to escape her home, remarking: “Anything to leave the house suddenly seems really appealing!”.

This Morning continues on weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV X.
