Inside Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium, stage for Corinthians’ Women’s Club World Cup semi-final

Corinthians face Gotham FC in London at 9.30 Brasília time in the semi-final of FIFA’s inaugural Women’s Club World Cup, played at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium.
According to Meu Timao, the ground will also host Arsenal against AS FAR at 15.00. The stadium is owned by Brentford, who sit eighth in the Premier League.
In west London by Kew Bridge, it lies less than 1.5 km from Brentford’s old home, Griffin Park. Opened recently, it holds 17,250, making it one of the league’s smaller venues.
The project was mapped out from 2002, including an early monorail idea later dropped. Land was secured in 2012 on Lionel Road after an option in 2007 and a 2008 deal with Barratt Homes.
Planning permission arrived in 2013 from Hounslow Council, the Mayor of London and the UK Government. A compulsory purchase order concluded in September 2016 cleared the way for construction.
The old Stratton Gentry Coal Works was demolished in 2017, with building beginning in March and major works gathering pace from spring 2018 on a site tucked within a railway junction.
Brentford confirmed completion in August 2020 and football followed that year. In summer 2022, parts of the west stand and north-east corner were converted to safe standing with seats and rails.
The stadium staged four matches at Women’s Euro 2022, three in Group B and a quarter-final. Germany beat Denmark 4-0 and Spain 2-0, while Spain defeated Denmark 1-0. The quarter-final finished 2-0.
