Paddy McNair: Hull City sign ex-Manchester United defender from San Diego FC

Hull City have signed former Manchester United, Sunderland and Middlesbrough defender Paddy McNair from MLS side San Diego FC on an 18-month contract.

The 30-year-old came through United’s youth setup and made 27 appearances for the club before moving to Sunderland in 2016 and later Middlesbrough.

Having made 219 appearances in all competitions for Boro, he moved to San Diego in 2024 and had a brief spell with West Bromwich Albion on loan before making 22 MLS appearances last season.

“It feels great to be here. It had been in the pipeline for a couple of weeks, so I’m very happy to get it over the line,” the Northern Ireland international said.

“I’ve played in the Championship for a lot of seasons and the one thing I’m missing is a promotion.

“It was a great opportunity to come to a big club that’s sitting well in the table. It would be great if we can push on towards the end of the season and get that goal.”
