Bus rented by LSU Athletics runs off road during winter weather

POLK COUNTY, Ark. (WAFB) – A bus belonging to a company contracted by LSU Athletics slid off a roadway and into a ditch in Arkansas.

The incident happened Monday night in Polk County, Arkansas, which is in the western part of the state.

Polk County Sheriff Scott Sawyer said a driver was on board at the time and was not hurt. The sheriff added he does not believe the bus suffered any damage and said it was pulled out of the ditch by a wrecker.

According to a spokesperson with LSU Athletics, there were no student-athletes or university staff members involved. They returned to Baton Rouge on Sunday following a men’s basketball game in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

The LSU spokesperson said the university does not own the bus, which he explained is rented from a company called Hotard. The company has a contract to transport students and staff to events.

Sheriff Sawyer said the area where the bus ran off the roadway, Polk 39 at Polk 93, was shut down for a period of time. According to the sheriff, winter weather has led to icy and dangerous roadways throughout Polk County, Arkansas.
