A Bolton road will remain closed into the weekend after a sinkhole opened up. Engineers were called out to Mytham Road, in Little Lever, on Thursday afternoon (January 23).
People were urged to avoid the area, with the road taped off close to Mytham Primary School. In an update issued today (Friday), United Utilities confirmed the sinkhole was caused by a leaking pipe.
Work is ongoing to repair the sinkhole and the pipe. Bolton council says the work is expected to be completed this weekend.
A United Utilities spokesperson said: “On Thursday, engineers received reports of a void on Mytham Road, Bolton. Our teams quickly arrived on site and found the cause to be a leaking pipe.
“To keep staff and the public safe, a road closure will remain in place while we work over the weekend to repair the pipe and reinstate the road. We are sorry for the disruption and want to thank the local community for their patience while we work as quickly as we can to resolve the issue.”
