Five vehicle A55 pile-up left several injured with one taken to specialist trauma unit

The crash on the A55 sparked a major emergency response
A major five-vehicle collision on the A55 eastbound resulted in significant travel chaos and multiple injuries yesterday evening, including one person who was rushed to a specialist trauma center.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:45 PM near Junction 34 (Ewloe Loop). North Wales Police, alongside the Welsh Ambulance Service, arrived to find a multi-vehicle pile-up with the eastbound lanes blocked.
A North Wales Police spokesperson confirmed that several occupants sustained injuries. Due to the severity of the crash, one individual was transported to the Royal University Stoke Hospital, which has a specialist traum centre, for treatment.
The force spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 4.45pm yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) to a multiple vehicle RTC on the A55 Eastbound, near J34 (Ewloe Loop).
“Officers attended alongside colleagues from WAST, and the road was closed. In total, five vehicles were involved and several occupants of those vehicles were injured, including one person who was transported to hospital in Stoke. The collision sparked immediate gridlock during the evening rush hour, with tailbacks stretching several miles toward the Northop turnoff at Junction 33. Police issued an urgent advisory for motorists to avoid the area while recovery teams and collision investigators worked at the scene.
The eastbound carriageway remained closed for more three hours, between Junction 33B (Ewloe/A494) and Junction 34, before finally reopening at 8:16pm. Traffic is reported to be flowing normally this morning.
