Dennis H. Sterling, age 83, of Faribault, MN, passed away January 28, 2026, at his home following a sudden illness.
Dennis Harlo, the son of Harlo and Irene (St. Martin) Sterling, was born on October 1, 1942, in Faribault. He graduated from Bethlehem Academy High School with the class of 1960, where he enjoyed playing sports, especially baseball and basketball. He attended Mankato State University and then served in the National Guard. He briefly worked at McQuay’s International before selling insurance for many years, mainly with American Family Insurance. He then worked for Control Data and Grist Mill/Con Agra for over 15 years until his retirement. Following his retirement, Denny worked for various local businesses, including many years with HyVee Liquor and lastly with Kwik Trip. Denny was united in marriage to Marcia Wilkowske on October 19, 1963. She preceded him in death on April 13, 2019. Denny loved sports and coached for many years. He coached basketball at CCS for many years and football at Bethlehem Academy. He then coached all his children through their youth sports for many years. Denny enjoyed being an umpire for many different levels of baseball and fastpitch. He was passionate about NASCAR racing and was able to travel to watch races with his sons.
He is survived by his children, Scott Sterling, Todd Sterling (Laura), Leslie Sterling, and Brent Sterling; six grandchildren, David Keppers (Kailee), Krystle Foley (Joe), Aj Sterling, Tika Sterling, Garret Sterling, and Bailey Sterling; brother, Bruce Sterling (Linda); and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcia; parents, Harlo and Irene; and his granddaughter, Abby Sterling.
Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
