The weekend of Jan. 30 to Feb. 1 will be a bitter cold one in Binghamton.

National Weather Service Binghamton meteorologist Adam Gill said the area will experience “well below average temperatures” throughout the weekend, though no significant precipitation is in the forecast.

On Jan. 30, NWS Binghamton issued a cold weather advisory for Broome and surrounding counties, which remains in effect until 9 a.m. Feb. 1.

The advisory states the potential for wind chills as low as -15 to -25 degrees, which “could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes,” and the possibility for hypothermia with “prolonged exposure.”

The actual air temperature will be below zero Jan. 30 and Jan. 31, the advisory states, which could lead to frozen or burst pipes.

The late afternoon will bring in potential light flurries, however Gill said no real accumulation is expected. Otherwise, the high temperature will be near 10 degrees, although wind chill values bring that down to -9 degrees.

The evening shows mostly cloudy skies with a low around 0 degrees.

Jan. 31 shows partly sunny skies with a high near 16 degrees, but wind chill values go as low as 0 degrees.

The evening shows mostly cloudy skies with a low around -1 degrees, with wind chill values as low as -11 degrees.

Weather Feb. 1 in Binghamton

Temperatures start to increase slightly starting Feb. 1, with a high near 17 degrees and partly cloudy skies. However, the afternoon will be a windy one, with a north wind between 6 and 10 mph and gusts as high as 23 degrees.

The evening shows mostly cloudy skies with a low around 8 degrees.
