Devante Cole: Luton Town sign experienced Port Vale striker

Luton Town have signed experienced striker Devante Cole from Port Vale for an undisclosed fee.

The 30-year-old scored in a 2-2 draw with Luton in December and registered the 100th goal of his career in Vale’s 5-1 win over Blackpool on 1 January.

The son of former Manchester United forward Andrew Cole, he began his career at Manchester City and his previous clubs include Barnsley, Motherwell and West Bromwich Albion.

“Devante is an exciting signing for us, a proven goalscorer at this level,” said Luton boss Jack Wilshere.

Luton went into Saturday’s home game against Blackpool with a six-point gap to make up on the play-off places following back-to-back 1-0 defeats by Plymouth Argyle and Huddersfield Town.

“Since I first became aware of the interest, I wanted to be a Luton player and I’m glad it’s finally at this point,” said Cole.

“I’ve been to Kenilworth Road a few times and it’s always a hard place for an opposition team to play, but I’m looking forward to getting out there with the fans behind me now.”
