Syracuse (12-9, 3-5 ACC) lost 88-68 against NC State Tuesday, with former Orange guard Quadir Copeland shining for the Wolfpack (15-6, 6-2 ACC). Copeland finished the game with 19 points, nine assists and four steals.

“(Copeland is) probably playing at an All-Conference level right now,” Syracuse coach Adrian Autry said. “He’s a lot to handle, you know, a 6-6 guard that can move, wiggle, seal the defense.”

Copeland played for the Orange during Autry’s first year as coach in 2023. He transferred after feeling like the staff didn’t view him as their starting point guard, which made him take this game personally.

“My teammates helped me in every way possible,” Copeland said after the game. “You know, they knew how important this game was to me. They knew the things behind it. So this whole week, they just been letting me know they got my back.”

At one point this season, the Orange were trending in the right direction. Fresh off a win against a ranked Tennessee team, there was real hope for what Syracuse could do this season. That’s come to a screeching halt over the past two weeks amidst the four-game losing streak.

Saturday’s matchup against Notre Dame is Syracuse’s best chance for a win over its next month of games. The Fighting Irish (11-10, 2-6 ACC) have lost six of their last seven games, near the bottom of the ACC standings. After Saturday, Syracuse will face No. 16 North Carolina, No. 17 Virginia, California (15-5), SMU (15-5), No. 4 Duke and another matchup against No. 16 UNC.
