With just a number of hours left in the January transfer window, Liverpool could make some late moves.

Lutsharel Geertruida is close to joining Liverpool.

The on loan Sunderland defender wants to link up with Arne Slot again with the Wearsiders expected to reach a deal with his parent club RB Leipzig to terminate the Dutch international’s loan early so he can move to Anfield.

We exclusively revealed that Sunderland could seek up to £4m as part of a compensation package.

After a long term injury to Conor Bradley and subsequent injury to Jeremie Frimpong, Geertruida is seen as an option to help reinforce the right back position as Liverpool push in the second half of the 2025/26 season.

And it seems that Liverpool are also looking at strengthening their midfield too.

DaveOCKOP can now exclusively reveal Liverpool could make a move for AZ Alkmaar star Kees Smit.

We can exclusively reveal also that initial talks have been held by the club and those representing the player.

The highly rated midfielder is grabbing the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs with a series of impressive performances under his belt.

Kees Smit currently plays for Eredivisie outfit AZ Alkmaar and has made 37 appearances to date.

He made his first-team debut on 7th November 2024 in AZ’s 3-1 Europa League win over Fenerbahce, scoring the second and assisting the third.

Since his debut he has grown to become a regular part of the first-team set up and he has started the 2025/26 season expertly well.

He has made 16 appearances so far this term, scoring two goals and registering two assists.

At just 20 years of age, AZ Alkmaar see him as a big talent for the future and are aware of interest from big clubs.

The club is open to selling him and are seeking to get the highest transfer fee possible for the player.

There has been much controversy over the future of Kees Smit.

Vereniging van Contractspelers (VVCS) released an official statement on X criticising the involvement of super agent Jorge Mendes in the potential sale of Smit and fellow Eredivisie star Kodai Sano of NEC Nijmegen.

VVCS have accused the clubs of treating their players as “as pure merchandise, not as mature employees with the right to self-determination”.

The context of the statement is around AZ Alkmaar and NEC Nijmegen looking “to get exorbitant transfers for Kees Smit and Kodai Sano”.

That may lead to the fact that Liverpool are now having talks to sign the player as high profile agents are clearly involved in getting Smit sold to a new club.

With Liverpool keen, they will be expecting to fork out around £30m for his services if they wished to proceed with any deal.
