Djed Spence will miss Tottenham Hotspur’s game against Manchester City this afternoon with a calf injury.

The 25-year-old has made 32 appearances for Spurs in all competitions this season. Head coach Thomas Frank has switched Spence between left-back and right-back but over the last few games he has played in a more advanced role.

The England international’s injury is the latest setback for Spurs. They have multiple key first-team players currently unavailable due to injury including Mohammed Kudus, Pedro Porro, Lucas Bergvall and Dejan Kulusevski.

During his press conference on Friday, Frank said that first choice centre-back Micky van de Ven’s availability for Man City was “touch and go.”

“He was on the pitch yesterday (and) on the pitch today,” Frank added. “So hopeful for that.”

It means Spurs could be without three important defenders as they take on Pep Guardiola’s side and search for a first win in the Premier League since they beat Crystal Palace on December 28.

Archie Gray is a contender to fill the right-back position for the visit of City.
