Derby County chasing fourth January transfer for Europa League ace

The Rams are hoping to do a deal for the left-back as they look to make their final additions to the squad on deadline day

Derby County hold a strong interest in Utrecht defender Derry Murkin as they look to reinforce their left-back spot ahead of the 7pm deadline.

After Owen Beck returned to Liverpool because of injury, the Rams are exploring a deal for the defender as they look to add competition for Callum Elder.

Englishman Murkin was born in Colchester, but has played his football in Europe throughout his career with stints at Jong Volendam, Schalke and latterly Utrecht in the Eredivisie.

Murkin joined Utrecht on a four-year deal last May for a fee of around £1m and has impressed in the Netherlands.

The 26-year-old has made 26 appearances this season and has scored twice with his last goal coming in a 3-2 defeat against Feyenoord.
