Bulls deal Nikola Vucevic to Celtics, acquire Jaden Ivey in trade with Pistons

The Bulls are making moves before Thursday’s trade deadline.

Looking for young proven players that fit the timeline around Josh Giddey and Matas Buzelis, a source confirmed the Bulls were involved in a three-team deal that sent Dario Saric and Kevin Huerter to Detroit, while getting back Jaden Ivey and Mike Conley Jr.

The Pistons and Timberwolves also swapped first-round protected picks.

Then the club traded center Nikola Vucevic and a second-round pick to the Boston Celtics for Anfernee Simons and a second-round pick, according to a report by ESPN.

Conley is an expiring contract and could be on the move yet again, as the Bulls are also still looking to move Coby White. Ivey, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 draft, had seen his minutes trimmed after three years as a starter. He did shoot 40.9% from three-point range in 30 games last season, dealing with injuries.

He’s just 23 years old.

Saric was acquired over the weekend in a three-team deal that led to Jevon Carter being waived.

Vucevic said the team would move forward with or without the front office adding help at the trade deadline Thursday, but if the Bulls want to break out of the middle of the pack in the East, they need more firepower.

The three-team deal Saturday was more about bookkeeping than improving the roster, but that doesn’t mean Karnisovas and the Bulls are finished. Sources think he will continue trying to be aggressive before the trade deadline Feb. 5.
