Pakistan vs Ireland, T20 World Cup warm-up LIVE: The Pakistan cricket team will be hoping to leave the off-field drama surrounding their participation in the ICC T20 World Cup behind when they face Ireland in their only warm-up match for the tournament on Wednesday. The Pakistanis face the Irishmen at the Sinhalese Sports Club, where they are scheduled to play all of their Group A fixtures except the marquee clash against tournament co-hosts India, which is scheduled to take place at the R Premadasa Stadium and is currently under doubt.
How Pakistan have fared in T20s since Asia Cup
The Salman Agha-led Pakistan T20 team have been on a roll since finishing runners-up at the Asia Cup in September, winning 10 out of 13 matches in the format since then. That includes a
3-0 sweep of Australia at home in their final assignment before the T20 World Cup, in which the hosts thrashed the Aussies by 90 and 111 runs respectively in the second and third T20Is.
Ireland, in contrast, had failed to win a single T20 assignment last year, losing all four bilateral series that they played across 2025. The Paul Stirling-led side, however, began the new year on a promising note with a successful tour of the UAE, where they defeated Italy – the team that will be making its T20 World Cup debut later this week – as well as the host nation in consecutive bilateral assignments.
Pakistan have faced Ireland a total of five times in the 20-over format, two of which have taken place in the T20 World Cup, and currently lead by a 4-1 margin – their only defeat against the Irishmen coming right before the previous T20 World Cup in 2024.
Pakistan, however, had nearly pulled out of the T20 World Cup following Bangladesh’s ouster from the tournament for refusing to travel to India. After being threatened with severe sanctions from the International Cricket Council, the government of Pakistan allowed the senior men’s team to travel to Sri Lanka for the tournament but
announced a boycott of their Group A match against India, which takes place at the Premadasa on 15 February.
