Mavericks trade Anthony Davis to Wizards, sources say

The Dallas Mavericks are trading 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards as part of an eight-player trade, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The Mavs will receive Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, two first-round draft picks and three second-rounders, sources said.
The Wizards also are acquiring Jaden Hardy, D’Angelo Russell and Dante Exum in the trade, according to sources.

The Mavs have been exploring the market for Davis, 32, since former general manager Nico Harrison was fired in early November, a decision made in large part because of the fan backlash from last year’s trade that sent perennial MVP contender Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for a package headlined by Davis.
Davis, who has been sidelined with a hand injury since early January, is averaging 20.1 points and 11.1 rebounds in 20 games this season.
Davis landing with the Wizards marks the second decorated, albeit injured, star player acquired this season by Washington. The rebuilding Wizards also traded for Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young last month, but the veteran guard has not played since December because of knee and quadriceps injuries.
Sources told ESPN earlier Wednesday that the Mavericks also were engaged in Davis talks with the Toronto Raptors and the Hawks.
The Mavericks (19-31) entered Wednesday on a five-game losing streak and are 12th in the Western Conference, 3.5 games behind the 10th-place Portland Trail Blazers (23-28).
