First official Olympic women’s downhill training event in Cortina canceled

The International Skiing Federation (FIS) announced Wednesday that the first official training for the women’s Alpine skiing downhill event at the 2026 Winter Olympics has been cancelled due to poor weather.
“You have seen the heavy snowfall is ongoing and the weather forecast does not allow us to reasonably plan the training for tomorrow,” said FIS chief race director Peter Gerdol, as reported by Reuters.
Thursday (Feb. 5) would have been the first opportunity for Lindsey Vonn (USA) to participate in a training session at the Tofane Alpine Skiing Centre in Cortina. The Olympic gold medalist announced on Tuesday that she “completely ruptured” the ACL in her left knee, but would still attempt to compete at the Games.
