Despite an offseason with a ton of hype, the Golden State Warriors haven’t been able to translate this into consistent winning this year. While the Warriors aren’t bad by any means, the team hasn’t been as dominant as expected.

Golden State still has stars Steph Curry and Draymond Green on the roster, giving them a nice core to build around. But the rest of the roster has left some things to be desired, and the team has struggled to find consistency on the court.
With the injury to star Jimmy Butler, the Warriors are now left looking for a way to replace his production in the lineup. Golden State could take the drastic route, and they have been linked to Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, but there are also other ways for this team to beef up the roster for the remainder of the year.
As the NBA trade deadline rolls around, the Warriors will need to upgrade the roster if they want to truly go after a title this season. But how this will look could be interesting since Golden State doesn’t have too many trade chips that have value around the NBA, without the franchise gutting the roster.

As Golden State looks for ways to upgrade the roster, one option for this team could be to go after star center Kristaps Porzingis of the Atlanta Hawks. The Porzingis experiment in Atlanta hasn’t worked out as planned, and we could see the Hawks look to move his expiring $30.7 million contract ahead of the trade deadline.
Any move here would likely be centered around forward Jonathan Kuminga, who has been on the trade block this season. The Hawks could land an up-and-coming player who could build with the rest of the younger guys on the team.
Porzingis has dealt with some injuries this year in Atlanta, and it has impacted the team overall on the court. But if he could get healthy, a trade could be exactly what the veteran needs to reignite his season.
With the Warriors, Porzingis could reunite with former Boston Celtics teammate Al Horford, helping to ease the transition over to the squad. But Porzingis could be what the Warriors have been missing, which is a strong frontcourt presence along the roster.
Golden State hasn’t been able to defend the paint well enough, and it has hurt them all year long. But when healthy, Porzingis is one of the better two-way players in the game, and he could take on this role for the Warriors.
In addition to the defense that Porzingis would bring to the table, he can step out onto the 3-point line to knock down shots. This could help unlock more within the Warriors’ offensive system, and he would fit right in with how Golden State likes to play.
Overall, this could be a way for the Warriors to at least attempt to maximize the season, while not taking on long-term money. Porzingis has won a title before, so his experience could add to this locker room as a whole.

The veteran big man has only been able to play in 17 games this season for the Hawks, so there is definitely an injury concern with him. But in that time, Porzingis has put up 17.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.5 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game.
Porzingis is also shooting 36 percent from beyond the arc, showing some nice numbers from distance. His shooting percentage would likely jump up with the Warriors since he would be getting better shot attempts in all likelihood due to the stars on the Golden State roster.
