Summerville shakes with 2.3 magnitude earthquake

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) — The U.S. Geological Survey has confirmed that a Summerville-area earthquake shook parts of the Lowcountry Tuesday morning.

The agency reported a magnitude 2.3 earthquake that originated between Pineland Drive and Spencer Circle in the Calomet Valley neighborhood. It occurred just before 11:25 a.m.

People have reported feeling the quake in Summerville, Ladson, North Charleston, Charleston and Goose Creek, with reports coming in from as far out from the point of origin as nearly 12.5 miles away.

The earthquake had a reported depth of 7.7 kilometers, or 4.8 miles.
