Rovers begin their defence of the trophy they lifted at Wembley tonight as they go for an awesome foursome.

Their following three matches will be Thursday’s historic Super League opener at new boys York, facing NRL champs Brisbane Broncos in the World Club Challenge then taking on Leeds in Las Vegas.

Up first, though, is a group of amateurs looking to write their own fairytale – some of whom will have had a busy day already.

“I’m in work,” said the residential gas engineer for a social housing firm in nearby Wakefield. “But I’ve managed to squeeze an hour off out of my day.

“I’ve managed to wangle a 3pm finish, so I can catch the bus at 4pm. It’ll be straight home, get changed, straight back out the door.

“No tea or anything. It’ll be probably a meal prep or something like that or just balance it out through the day.”

Lock Lane are technically the home team, but the match was switched to Craven Park – not Castleford Tigers’ home – and the financial benefits for the club are huge.

And Price, who turns 30 on Valentine’s Day, does not want Robins boss Willie Peters to go easy on them. He wants to face the full side, and score against it.

He added: “If you’re going to play them, you want to play them at their best. Regardless of the result, it’ll be an experience.

“I suppose it’s like the ultimate game where there’s no pressure on us and it’s more than a game on the field. It’s what happens off the field.

“It keeps us running for probably another five years. It’ll go down as the biggest game in Lock Lane’s history.

“This is what cup’s all about and it was a no-brainer to move the game outside Castleford.

“We’ll get a lot more spectators at Hull KR than we’d get at Castleford, because a lot of KR fans might not travel.

“We’re not expected to do anything and if we could score, that’d be as big as winning for us.”
