Manchester United set to strengthen two positions in summer transfer window

Man Utd were quiet in the January window but are set to strengthen the squad in the summer transfer window.
United will invest in the summer.
Manchester United are expected to strengthen in midfield and on the left wing in the summer transfer window. United kept their powder dry in January, but they will be active at the end of the season.
United were interested in Antoine Semenyo before his £62.5million move to Manchester City. The Reds were prepared to deviate from their plan not to make a mid-season signing because Semenyo was a long-term target and his release clause made him attainable.
The midfield will receive an overhaul in the summer window. Casemiro is set to leave after his fourth season in Manchester, following last month’s announcement that his contract will not be extended. Casemiro is the highest earner in the dressing room and his exit will free up money on the wage bill.

United considered a move for Carlos Baleba last summer. Brighton valued the midfielder in excess of £100million, and United focused their resources on strengthening other areas of the team. Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton have also been tracked.
Kobbie Mainoo’s long-term future at Old Trafford was uncertain throughout Ruben Amorim’s tenure, but United will revisit negotiations with the young midfielder over a new deal.
Michael Carrick has reintegrated Mainoo, starting him in impressive wins against City, Arsenal and Fulham. The Stockport-born midfielder is one of the lowest earners in the first team, having last signed a contract in 2023.
It’s understood that the performance-related bonuses in Mainoo’s contract have all been triggered, increasing his salary, but his camp believes his wages still do not fairly reflect his role in the United squad.
Bruno Fernandes will decide his future after the World Cup. “I feel good here. I want to achieve my dreams still,” said Fernandes in October. “My agent also knows how I work, so if he wants to talk to me, it will be after the World Cup. Because until then, I won’t speak to anyone.”
Before Christmas, United sources reiterated Ineos chiefs have no desire to sell Fernandes, who has contributed 12 assists in the Premier League this season. Fernandes’ contract expires in 2027 and there is the option of extending by a further 12 months.
