Alpine skiing men’s downhill at Winter Olympics 2026: Marco Odermatt chases speed crown – full schedule and how to watch live

The men’s Alpine skiing downhill is widely regarded as the ‘queen’ event of the Winter Olympic Games.

At the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, the race takes place at the Stelvio Alpine Skiing Centre on Saturday (7 February). The 3,442m-course is a regular stop on the World Cup circuit and is widely considered one of the most challenging, thanks to its steepness and technical demands.

The reigning Olympic champion, Beat Feuz, retired after winning gold at Beijing 2022, where he topped the podium ahead of silver medallist Johan Clarey (FRA) and bronze winner Matthias Mayer (AUT).

At the most recent World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria, Swiss star Franjo von Allmen claimed the title, beating home favourite Vincent Kriechmayr, with compatriot Alexis Monney rounding out the podium.

Coming into the event, 2023 world champion and two-time discipline Crystal Globe winner Marco Odermatt leads the World Cup downhill standings with three wins, ahead of Von Allmen.

In third place is Dominik Paris, who has topped the podium in Bormio a record seven times (including six downhill wins). Among the Italian contingent, another one to watch is Giovanni Franzoni, the recent winner of the prestigious Hahnenkamm downhill in Kitzbühel, Austria.
