Veteran Miami Heat swingman Andrew Wiggins has been a known Los Angeles Lakers trade target dating back to last year. Ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, the Heat continue shopping Wiggins with hopes of landing a first-round pick that they can use to execute a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
According to insider Evan Sidery, the Heat view the Lakers as one of the teams that can help them acquire additional draft capital to pull off a Giannis trade. Miami has only two tradeable first-round picks to offer to the Milwaukee Bucks for the two-time MVP.
“The Heat continue to shop Andrew Wiggins for a 1st-round pick to enhance their trade offer to the Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo,” Sidery reported on X. “The Lakers have been linked to Wiggins for months as a potential wing trade target. Wiggins holds a $30.2 million player option for next season.”

Giannis Trade: Miami Heat Pursuit
Besides the two first-round picks, the Heat can offer intriguing young talents like Kel’el Ware and Jaime Jaquez Jr., as well as a proven All-Star like Tyler Herro, to the Bucks. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Heat could “take that offer” if Antetokounmpo, a free agent in 2027, insists on a move to Miami.
As of earlier this week, Jaquez was not part of Miami’s offer, but Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson noted this week that the franchise is willing to go all-in on a Giannis trade.
“The Heat’s offer, according to a source, is widely expected to include Ware, Tyler Herro, Terry Rozier’s expiring contract, and another young player or more, as well as first-round picks in 2030 and 2032 and possibly first-round pick swaps in 2026, 2029 and 2031,” Jackson reported on Monday.

Lakers Trade Target: Andrew Wiggins
While the Lakers covet Wiggins as the prototypical 3-and-D wing to help out the trio of Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves and LeBron James, it seems highly unlikely they will part with their only tradeable first-round pick for the 2022 NBA champion.
In December, LakersDaily’s Ashish Mathur reported that Wiggins has many fans within the Lakers organization, as they admire his ability to be a stout wing defender.
“Wiggins has many fans within the Lakers organization,” Mathur wrote on Dec. 4. “He’s an athletic wing who can defend at a high level, get to the rim at will and finish in heavy traffic and shoot from beyond the arc.”
Per multiple insiders, talks between the Lakers and Heat fell apart last summer because the Lakers didn’t want to include a first-round pick in the package and preferred to make a deal using the expiring contract of Rui Hachimura and Dalton Knecht. It appears their outlook has not changed, with The Athletic’s Dan Woike reporting that the Lakers won’t trade their pick unless it’s for a real difference-maker.
“The 2032 pick probably isn’t going anywhere,” Woike reported, explaining why the Lakers are unlikely to part with their most valuable trade chip.
“With Wiggins, I don’t know if he’s really available or if he’s worth it at this price point. Again, would adding Wiggins make the Lakers so much better that they’d decide to ignore their plans?”
