‘Free hit’ for North Wales Crusaders against Super League Leigh Leopards

It’s Saturday night under the lights at Colwyn Bay’s Stadiwm CSM, with Crusaders at home to top flight Leigh Leopards in the third round.
Adrian Lam’s charges won the cup three years ago and they will make the trip to North Wales as favourites to progress.
Head coach Muir told CruCast: “We just focus on ourselves, what we want to do.
“It is a free hit. Nobody expects us to win. Nobody expects us to challenge them and put them into places they don’t want to be and we want to go there and do that.
“We want to challenge them to the best of our ability and we want to represent us for longer periods than we did against Widnes.
“When we did represent us, I thought we put them in difficult places and scored points.
“We just need to do that for 80 minutes and there’s no greater test than a Super League side to do that.”
Crusaders reached the third round of the famous competition with their comfortable 110-0 success at home to Bedford Tigers.
This was followed by a 28-14 reverse at Widnes Vikings last time out to open the Championship campaign, but tomorrow’s match-up is one the players are certainly looking forward to.
Muir added: “It’s massive for the club. Obviously, the ground will be full.
“The atmosphere will be buzzing and they always travel well, and they’re always loud and proud, aren’t they, Leigh?
“So, we just need to go there and really give them it. The magic of the cup.
“There’s yet to be an upset, really. So, we need to go and hopefully be that one that can cause some problems.”
Any supporters unable to travel to Stadiwm CSM will still be able to see the action.
The club has launched a new partnership with Clubber TV and the Leigh clash will be Crusaders’ debut in the venture.
Further information is available from the club’s Facebook page.
Holders Hull KR begin their defence of the trophy at home to Castleford amateurs Lock Lane this evening.
“We’re playing Hull KR next and it’s just like, wow,” said Lock Lane head coach Brad Roberts.
Wigan Warriors, cup winners in 2024, head to Rochdale Hornets on Sunday, while Widnes Vikings are at home to Leeds Rhinos tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s other ties: Doncaster v Castleford; Barrow v York. Tonight: Hunslet v Huddersfield; Sheffield v Warrington; Workington v St Helens; Salford v Hull. Sunday: Batley v Catalans; Halifax v Goole; Keighley v Midlands; London Broncos v Bradford; Oldham v Dewsbury; Swinton v Wakefield.
