Sidney Crosby picks Tom Wilson to lead Team Canada in penalty minutes at the 2026 Winter Olympics

Tom Wilson/a> was a popular pick in a video survey conducted by the CBC ahead of the 2026 With Olympic Games in Milan Cortina, and not necessarily for the right reasons.

For instance, one foe now turned friend, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, picked Wilson to lead Team Canada in penalty minutes.

It’s worth noting, Crosby was nodding and very confident about his selection, though he gave Brad Marchand a chance to do so, too.

Producer: Who on the team is most likely to get the most penalty minutes?

Connor McDavid: I feel like this isn’t really a compliment, so I don’t really want to say anybody to be honest.

Sidney Crosby: Tom Wilson. Maybe Marshy. They’d be battling it out.

Jordan Binnington: The guy here likely to get the most penalty minutes would be a toss-up between Brad Marchand and Tom Wilson.

Tom Wilson: Um, I’m trying to stay out of the box these days, so not myself, but…

Producer: Tom Wilson told us he’s involved and he’s trying to stay out of the box.

Sidney Crosby: Marshy definitely didn’t say that.

Brad Marchand: Sam Bennett. He hits too hard.

Shea Theodore: Most penalty minutes I’d probably go Sam Bennett. Kind of watching him at the Four Nations. He was kind of hitting everything that moved.

Sam Bennett: Uh, maybe myself. (laughing)

Wilson also got a lot of consideration for being the team leader in hits. He also voted for himself in this category.

Producer: Most likely to lead the team in hits?

Sam Bennett: Wilson or myself.

Jordan Binnington: Maybe Bennett.

Cale Makar: (Colton) Parayko.

Nick Suzuki: Maybe, like, Parayko.

Mitch Marner: Maybe Parayko or someone.

Shea Theodore: Maybe Brandon Hagel. You know, they like to play that type of gritty game, and it’s good to have on your side.

Connor McDavid: Tom Wilson.

Tom Wilson: I’ll bet on myself to have a lot of hits, that’s for sure.

When asked who would have the best outfits, most of the players ragged on other guys. Binnington accurately pointed out that, “Well, we’re all wearing the same outfits” — Lululemon designed gear — so players will not have much room to get creative.

“It’ll be fun to see all the guys in their new kits,” Wilson said.

Mitch Marner is going to be the DJ after doing so at the 4 Nations Face Off.

“He likes the gangster stuff,” said Marchand. “I like that.”

Crosby, McDavid, and MacKinnon were all voted to most likely to lead the team in scoring. Though Tom picked McDavid individually.

Finally, when asked who would be most likely to stuff their face with Italian food, Tom Wilson had a great reply, perhaps indicating he would vote for his friendly adversary, Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson.

“I might have to no comment on that,” Wilson said, who teased Thompson about the very topic in December. “I’ve heard from some Olympians that sometimes food in the village can be hard to find. Cassie was saying if you see a banana, grab it, because you never know when the next kind of food is going to be available, and all the athletes want the same stuff.”
