Kid Rock releases video to counter halftime lip sync narrative

In the 5-minute clip, Rock and his DJ show how they double the lyrics to his song ‘Bawitdaba.’

As promised, Kid Rock released a video on Tuesday explaining he did not lip sync his performance of “Bawitdaba” during his performance Sunday as part of the Turning Point USA “All American Halftime Show.”

In the 5-minute clip uploaded to social media, Rock is seen with his DJ, Paradime, and he shows how he and Paradime go back and forth with each other, trading lyrics on the song.

“When we’re rapping it, that song takes so much energy,” Rock explains. He and Paradime then go on to perform the song’s first verse, ‘Dime filling in words and phrases while Rock takes a breath or flips his microphone in his hands.

“He’s filling in those words for me so I can (catch my breath), bang my head, keep going and carrying on,” Rock says.

He explains that the production crew who filmed the performance weren’t “super familiar” with the song, and Paradime wasn’t lit during the performance, so it looked like Rock was lip syncing the song when words that weren’t his own were being pumped through the audio mix. He says he expressed concern over the edit the first time he saw it played back to him.

“I know these cats had a difficult time getting that sync together,” he said, noting the production crew was “top notch, first class all the way” but “nobody’s perfect and gets it right every time.”

Rock said the “fake news media, left wingers, crazy libtards” ran wild with the lip sync story and that he was looking to shut down those reports.

“No lip syncing here, no ‘Tutti Frutti,'” Rock said.

The “All American Halftime Show” was set up in opposition of Bad Bunny’s performance at the Super Bowl halftime following right wing backlash.

Kid Rock announced a tour in recent days, and said he has partnered with Ticketmaster for the tour, after testifying before Senate about Ticketmaster fees last month.

After his performance on the Turning Point USA halftime show, he released a cover of Cody Johnson’s “‘Til You Can’t” on streaming platforms.
