Special weather statement calls for possible snowfall midweek

A snowfall warning has been issued across much of Nova Scotia ahead of a storm expected to bring significant snow to the province.

Environment Canada said a low-pressure system will track south of the province on Wednesday, bringing snow to much of the province, including the Halifax area.

“Snow will begin over western Nova Scotia Wednesday morning and move eastward across the province through the day, reaching Cape Breton by Wednesday evening,” the statement reads.

The national forecaster said most of the province could see between 15 and 20 centimetres of snow.

School closures

The expected storm is also causing some school closures across the province with Tri-County, Annapolis Valley and South Shore Regional Centre for Education cancelling classes for the day.

CCRCE schools in the Municipality of East Hants as well as schools in Advocate and Parrsboro as well as schools in Annapolis Valley also closing due to weather today.

Slippery roads and sidewalks

According to Environment Canada, roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow and it could play a significant factor on rush hour traffic.

The agency also warning local utility outages are possible.
