Matty Cash is expected to miss Aston Villa’s next two games with a knee injury.
Cash, 28, had scans following Villa’s 1-1 draw at Bournemouth on Saturday, having felt pain in his knee. Results showed no serious findings, aside from inflammation around the knee.
It means the right-back is only likely to further miss the FA Cup fixture against Newcastle United on February 14, having not been included in the squad for Villa’s league fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday evening (tonight).
Midfielder Lamare Bogarde will deputise at right-back, with Unai Emery short of options in the position. The only other alternative to Cash is Andres Garcia, who remains out with a hamstring issue.
Bogarde did, however, play at full-back in the 4-1 away defeat by Arsenal in December, when Cash was suspended.
The current timeline indicates that Poland international will return for Leeds United’s visit to Villa Park on February 21.
Cash has been among the Premier League’s best-performing right-backs this season, making 24 league appearances, scoring three times and assisting twice. Good form warranted a contract extension for the Poland international in October, agreeing a new deal until June 2029.
