Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for central and eastern Prince Edward Island.
The yellow alerts issued Wednesday morning said significant snowfall is expected in Queens and Kings counties into Thursday afternoon, with total amounts expected to reach between 15 and 20 cm.
“Light to moderate snow will fall steadily today, and it continue to fall tonight through much of Thursday, before easing into scattered flurries Thursday night,” said CBC meteorologist Jay Scotland.
Amounts between 10 and 20 cm are possible for central and eastern P.E.I., while amounts between five and 10 cm are possible for western parts of the province, he said.
“While this may not be a lot of snow all at once, it will add up over the next 24 hours, particularly for eastern areas,” Scotland said. “Islanders should be prepared for messy roads Wednesday night through Thursday night.”
Blowing and drifting snow could also be an issue Thursday, said Scotland, noting a strong northerly to northwesterly wind with possible gusts from 40 km/h to near 70 km/h before easing Thursday night into Friday morning.
