Cooper Woods won the gold ahead of Mikael Kingsbury, despite both scoring 83.71 in the super final.
Why did Woods get the gold ahead of the Canadian?
It came down to the fact the Australian had a higher turns score — 48.4 — than Kingsbury.
Kingsbury’s turns score was 47.7.

Medal ceremony underway
Cooper Woods has just received his gold medal in Livigno.
What a proud moment for the Aussie, who needed to come through Qualification 2 to make the medal round.
He led Qualification 2 with a score of 80.46, and then topped Final 1 with 83.60.
Woods had to endure a nervous wait as the eighth and last competitor in the super final.
But he showed a cool head to nail his run and claim Australia’s first medal of the Milano Cortina Games.
We’ll post some pics from the medal ceremony as soon as they come to hand.

For the record, Canadian great Mikael Kingsbury takes home the silver and Japan’s Ikuma Horishima collects the bronze.
Woods’s Australian teammate Matt Graham was fifth in the super final, with Jackson Harvey finishing in eighth spot.

Australia’s Matt Graham is fourth on the standings in the super final after scoring 80.88.
Canadian great Mikael Kingsbury leads with 83.71.
Australia’s Cooper Woods is the last to go down.

Japan’s Horishima seizes lead
We have a new leader!
Japan’s Ikuma Horishima snares top spot with a score of 83.44.
Earlier, Australia’s Jackson Harvey was the first to go down in the men’s super final, scoring 74.93.
But he was edged out of top spot, with Canada’s Julien Viel scoring 79.98 to take the provisional lead at the time.
American Nick Page is third after scoring 75.00, with Harvey in fourth position.

Woods to go last in moguls super final
Australia’s Cooper Woods will be the last competitor to make his run for the medals in the men’s moguls super final.
Woods topped the standings after Final 1 with a score of 83.60.
His Aussie teammates Matt Graham (81.56) and Jackson Harvey (79.92) also qualified in third and eighth place respectively.
Harvey will be the first to go in the super final, with Graham sixth in the start order.

Aussie trio through to super final
Australia’s Cooper Woods, Matt Graham and Jackson Harvey have booked their places in the men’s moguls super final.
Woods is leading the standings with a score of 83.60 after 17 athletes have made their runs in Final 1.
Graham is second with 81.56.
Harvey (79.92) dropped back to provisional fifth place but has advanced.
The top eight go through to the super final.

Australia’s Jackson Harvey is the new leader!
Harvey scores 79.92 to top the standings after six athletes.
What a performance!
South Korea’s Jung Dae-yoon is next in the start order, but he doesn’t have his best run and scores 34.28 to be in sixth place.
Charlie Mickel of the US can’t knock Harvey off top spot, with his effort of 78.03 leaving him in provisional third position.
Japan’s Takuya Shimakawa scores 76.54 and he moves into fifth on the standings.

Moguls Final 1 is underway!
Finland’s Olli Penttala is the first athlete to make a run in Final 1.
Penttala scored 78.14.
His teammate Akseli Ahvenainen was second in the start order, registering a score of 27.48.
Canada’s Elliot Vaillancourt follows Ahvenainen, posting 76.85 to sit second behind Penttala.
Landon Wendler of the US is next up — his 70.20 is only good enough for provisional third place.
Rasmus Stegfeldt is fifth in the running order — what can the Swede do?
Stegfeldt is scored at 60.19, to be fourth on the standings.

Moguls Final 1 about to start
We’re only minutes away from the start of the men’s moguls Final 1.
Matt Graham, Jackson Harvey and Cooper Woods are looking to reach the top eight so they can advance to the super final, where the medals will be decided.
Harvey is the first Aussie to go down, in sixth place on the start order, with Woods 10th and Graham 11th.
There are 20 athletes in Final 1.

Timmings 21st after opening skeleton rounds
The men’s skeleton heats have finished for the day, with Australia’s Nicholas Timmings sitting in 21st place with a total time of 1:55.83.
Great Britain’s Matt Weston tops the standings with 1:52.09 after setting track records in both his runs at the Cortina Sliding Centre.
The third and fourth-round heats will take place on Saturday morning AEDT.
Only 24 athletes contested the opening two rounds after Vladyslav Heraskevych was disqualified over the use of a helmet depicting Ukrainian athletes killed in the Russia-Ukraine War.
The Ukrainian was informed of his disqualification after a meeting with IOC president Kirsty Coventry early on Thursday morning, local time, at the sliding venue.

Aussie men up soon in moguls Final 1
We’re just under 30 minutes away from the start of the men’s moguls Final 1.
There are 20 athletes competing, with the top eight to advance to the super final.
Australia’s Jackson Harvey is sixth in the start order, with Cooper Woods 10th to go down.
Co-flag bearer Matt Graham — a silver medallist in 2018 — follows Woods in 11th spot.
They have one run to make it through to the super final.

Snowboard cross 1/8 finals revealed

As we’ve mentioned, Australia’s three competitors in the men’s snowboard cross will now turn their attention to the 1/8 finals.
There are eight races to be contested, with four athletes in each.
The top two qualify for the quarterfinals, with the remaining elimnated.
Jarryd Hughes will race in the second 1/8 final and Adam Lambert will be in the third.
James Johnstone features in the fifth 1/8 final.

Aussie snowboarders learn their rankings
The second seeding run of the men’s snowboard cross has wrapped up.
Adam Lambert (1:08.64) was 21st, Jarryd Hughes (1:09.36) 25th and James Johnstone (1:11.07) 30th after their second run.
All three now move into the 1/8 finals, or the round of 32, which begins at 11:45pm AEDT.
France’s Aidan Chollet was top of the pops with a time of 1:06.37 in the opening seeding run.

Timmings back for more at skeleton track
Nicholas Timmings has registered a time of 57.57 in his second heat of the men’s skeleton at the Cortina Sliding Centre.
He improved on his first heat in which he clocked 58.26.
The Australian has a total time of 1:55.83.
We’ll give you Timmings’s final ranking for the first day of competition after the second heat concludes.

Lambert improves in second run

Australia’s world number one Adam Lambert has bettered his opening time in the preliminary rounds of the men’s snowboard cross.
Lambert stopped the clock in 1:08.64 to move into provisional top spot in the second seeding run.
He missed out on an automatic passage to the 1/8 finals — or the round of 32 — after being ranked 23rd in the first seeding run.
Lambert’s teammate and 2018 silver medallist, Jarryd Hughes, managed a time of 1:09.36 in his second effort.
He is in provisional fourth spot among the 12 contesting the additional seeding run.

Aussies miss top 20 in snowboard cross
Australian trio — Adam Lambert, Jarryd Hughes and James Johnstone — are contesting the second seeding run of the men’s snowboard cross.
The Aussies finished outside the top 20 in the first seeding run, but were not eliminated from the competition.
Lambert (1:10.10) was 23rd, Hughes (1:10.49) 28th and Johnstone (1:11.54) 30th in the opening run.
