A fresh dose of nostalgia is seemingly on the way for PlayStation gamers.
Yes, the creator of a classic PlayStation 1 game has confirmed that the title is set to receive a remake.
As spotted by PlayStation Lifestyle, it’s 1995’s Rayman that could be making a comeback – a franchise which has been absent since 2013’s Rayman Legends.
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope did arrive four years ago, but that’s a spin-off and not a mainline entry.
Series creator Michel Ancel made reference to a HD re-release in a new interview in Retro Gamer magazine, shared by raymanmerch on Twitter/X.
Rayman Is Set to Return, According to the Game’s Creator
“Even though it’s complex, I think there’s a kind of remake planned,” said Ancel.
“I don’t remember when specifically, but it will be in HD and I think Ubisoft is adding a few more checkpoints and things like that just to make it a bit less frustrating.
“I think it’s a nice move, because that’s the only point that could be a problem for non-skilled players.”
It’s odd that we surpassed Rayman’s 30th anniversary in September of last year, as I’d have said that’s a perfect time to revisit such a classic game.
One aspect of this that is worrying is you have to bring in recent changes made at Ubisoft.

By all accounts, it doesn’t sound as if Ancel is particularly close to the remake project given his uncertainty and vagueness.

As I’m sure you’re aware, Ubisoft recently cancelled a number of projects amidst mass layoffs and a title being close to development completion isn’t necessarily enough to save it.
That much is clear with The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake which, according to leaks, even had collector’s edition merch ready to ship.
Could a Rayman remake or remaster have been caught up in the cancellations?
I’d like to think not, mainly given that this feels like a low-cost, safe project.
The comeback of a 30-year-old game is enough to satiate the appetite for nostalgia. Add a couple of new bells and whistles and Ubisoft could be on to a winner.
Of course, until Rayman’s comeback is officially announced, do take all of this with a pinch of salt.
Personally, I’d love to know when we’re getting another mainline game in the style of the excellent Rayman Legends.
It remains a total banger to this day; the formula shouldn’t remain untouched. Then again, this is Ubisoft we’re talking about. That company is sitting on a goldmine of untapped potential.
While I can’t see this Rayman remake surfacing anytime soon, don’t forget that a State of Play is taking place tomorrow – the longest to date at 60+ minutes.
