Tomorrow is the first Friday the 13th of the year and with that, comes the traditional biker rally in Port Dover, Ont.
The Norfolk County event happens every Friday the 13th, meaning there will be another in March this year and one in November.
This week’s rally is expected to draw fewer visitors than recent summer events, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Const. Andrew Gamble said in a news release Wednesday.
Even so, the OPP Norfolk County detachment says it expects an increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic, particularly in downtown Port Dover.
No road closures
“A visible police presence will be maintained throughout the day to support public safety and ensure a positive experience for residents and visitors alike,” Gamble said.
He added drivers and motorcycle riders are encouraged to check the weather ahead of time and drive safely.
In June, Port Dover limited some streets to motorcycle traffic only to accommodate the rally. That will not be the case this time, a Norfolk County spokesperson confirmed to CBC Hamilton.
The county said first responders and staff from the roads department will be on standby in case there are crowds, but usually cold weather limits those.
No vendors will be on county property except for rally organizers with the Port Dover Kinsmen selling T-shirts in the Elmer Lewis parking lot.
