Evri confirms parcel delivery disruption following Oxford firm’s collapse

The delivery service has said the sudden collapse of its partner Pedal and Post, which delivered in Oxford’s clean air zone, has caused “some temporary disruption”.

The issue came to light when Carol Leonard, who lives in Grandpont, Oxford, reported several parcels had not been delivered.

They contained special food for her cat as well as litter, and though they were sent out for delivery, remained sitting at the depot.

Three in particular remained missing for well over a week, including one ordered on January 31 and two ordered on January 29.

This resulted in some confusion as she was at points told her parcels were out for delivery and also that there was no record of them.

It led to the pet shop she had ordered the items from – which uses Evri – to provide her with refunds.

In addition, Ms Leonard was unhappy about the system for logging complaints with Evri, and said she was frustrated by the responses of the AI tool online and could not find a number to call.

Others in the area also reported disruption, with Evri subsequently confirming they had been impacted by the collapse of Pedal and Post.

In addition they said they had apologised to Ms Leonard, with her parcels being delivered on Tuesday, February 10.

An Evri spokesperson said: “We successfully deliver more than 900 million parcels each year, with industry-leading on-time delivery rates.

“We were disappointed to learn that our e-cargo bike delivery partner in Oxford ceased trading without notice, which caused some temporary disruption for a small number of customers in the local area.

“We have quickly re-organised deliveries in the area, and our local team are working hard to resume normal service.

“We have spoken to Carol to apologise for her experience and are pleased to confirm her parcel has been delivered this afternoon.”

Pedal and Post shut its operations in Oxford and London in late January.

The happened after it won ‘sustainable medium business of the year’ at the Oxford Climate Awards and during last summer launched in the capital city.

A total of 60 people, including a mix of employed and self-employed team members across Oxford and London, lost their jobs.

Chief executive and founder Christopher Benton said: “Despite exploring every possible avenue to continue – and truly exhausting all options – we have reached the point where we can no longer sustain the business.”
