Dakota Fanning’s 8-Part Netflix Psychological Thriller Series Is The Perfect Weekend Binge

Netflix is one of the best streaming services when looking for thriller series, and an underrated TV show starring Dakota Fanning emerges as the perfect weekend binge after the actress’ recent success in the genre. February has proven itself to be a great month for Netflix’s thriller series, with the release of new hit shows and a couple of major returns.

Among the latter are The Lincoln Lawyer season 4, which is already charting worldwide, and one of Netflix’s most-watched TV shows of all time, The Night Agent, which returns quite soon. Both of those, and new series like Unfamiliar and Cash Queens, emerge as exciting thriller series to check out on Netflix. However, I believe Fanning’s 2-year-old drama also deserves a spot on that list.

Dakota Fanning has had a successful career in Hollywood, with the 31-year-old actress starring in high-profile projects like War of the Worlds, The Twilight Saga, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and more. Recently, the star made history as one of the main characters in All Her Fault, the thriller series that has become the most-watched TV show in Peacock’s history.

In All Her Fault, Fanning played Jenny Kaminski, one of the suspects in the kidnapping of the young Milo, and the new best friend of the child’s mother, Marissa Irvine (Sarah Snook). After finishing the hit Peacock series, those wanting to watch a similar psychological thriller that gets more intense as the season goes on should turn to Netflix’s Ripley.

Why Netflix’s Ripley Is The Perfect Weekend Binge

Ripley was released on Netflix on April 4, 2024. This neo-noir thriller consists of eight episodes, which range from 44 minutes to 1 hour and 16 minutes. As such, Ripley might be too much to watch in one night, but the psychological thriller series makes for a tense-filled weekend binge that promises to keep viewers on the edge of their seats and guessing all the way through.

The black and white presentation makes Ripley look starkly different from most recent thriller series. The Netflix show presents gorgeous visuals that help enhance the serious tone of the story within. As its name suggests, Netflix’s Ripley is based on the book The Talented Mr. Ripley, with the show offering a unique way to enjoy a classic. Ripley was also well-received by critics.

Ripley Cast & Character Guide

The cast of the 2024 Netflix miniseries Ripley, based on the 1955 crime novel The Talented Mr. Ripley, includes some very familiar faces.

At the time of writing, Ripley holds an 86% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Dakota Fanning plays Marge Sherwood, Dickie Greenleaf’s girlfriend, who instantly becomes suspicious of Andrew Scott’s Tom Ripley as he weasels his way into the rich man’s life.

All Her Fault fans will see Fanning play a key role in a psychological thriller that slowly reveals its characters’ true personas, making the Netflix and Peacock series similar in that regard.
