Finland forwards Anton Lundell, Oliver Kapanen out of lineup vs. Italy

Team Finland was without two key pieces as they tried to win their final Olympic group-play matchup.
Forwards Anton Lundell and Oliver Kapanen are out of the lineup for Saturday’s tilt against Italy.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman posted to X that the Finnish broadcast announced that Lundell is sick and Kapanen is his roommate.
Finland sits 1-0-1-0 and needs a regulation win to move into the second spot in Group B after Slovakia scored late to cut their deficit against Sweden in their 5-3 loss, to improve their goal differential and chances of winning the group.
Lundell has picked up 40 points (16 goals and 24 assists) in 54 games with the Florida Panthers this season. The 24-year-old was a member of the Finland team that captured the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championships.
Kapanen, 22, has 18 goals and 13 assists in 57 games with the Montreal Canadiens in 2025-26.
This is not the first illness hit Finland at the 2026 Winter Olympics, their women’s hockey team dealt with cases of norovirus that caused their opening game against Canada to be rescheduled.
Switzerland’s women’s hockey team also dealt with known cases of the virus.
