The Iowa State Cyclones men’s basketball team has had plenty of players step up during the 2025-26 season.
Already a historic campaign that included 16 consecutive victories to start the year, there are going to be a lot of Cyclones players recognized for their performances on the court. One player who is deserving of major praise is Milan Momcilovic.
Heading into his junior season, he knew things would be different. Opponents would have him as one of the main points on their game plan, but that hasn’t stopped him from putting up some impressive numbers.
As a result of his success, Momcilovic looks to be firmly in the mix as a potential second-round pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, thanks in large part to his elite shooting ability. That has led to Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report sharing an interesting pro comp for the Iowa State sharpshooter: Svi Mykhailiuk.

The former Kansas Jayhawks star came into his own during his four-year career in Lawrence. As a senior, he made 44.4% of his 3-point attempts, which led the Big 12. Momcilovic is on pace to accomplish the same feat this season, currently making 52.0% of his attempts, which is leading the country.
3-point shooting is the most similar trait that the two standouts have. Mykhailiuk had a bit more playmaking ability in his offensive repertoire, averaging 2.7 assists per game during his final season with Kansas.
Momcilovic isn’t much of a facilitator, averaging a single assist per game. But he has a more advanced offensive arsenal, capable of scoring from all three levels of the court and possessing an array of moves in the mid-post.

Both players are listed at 6-foot-8, so they have similar builds. But, Momcilovic has a better chance of holding up defensively at the next level because he can guard most forwards, weighing in at 220 pounds; Mykhailiuk was listed at only 195 pounds.
Alas, that didn’t keep him from being selected. The Jayhawks star was picked No. 47 overall in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, and that is a range Momcilovic could certainly end up in when the 2026 NBA Draft rolls around in June.
He has steadily moved up NBA Draft Big Boards, putting himself right in the mix to be selected in the second half of the second round. Pre-draft testing will be key for him. If he can showcase some ability to hold up defensively, his shooting will put him over the edge as a prospect.
