The 16-year-old Olympic debutant suffered a crash in training ahead of the women’s giant slalom.

The Italian Winter Sports Federation has confirmed 16-year-old Giada D’Antonio has sustained a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament after a crash in training.

The youngest member of Italy’s Milano Cortina 2026 Alpine skiing team, and the first Neapolitan ever to compete at a Winter Games, D’Antonio made her Olympic debut in the slalom portion of the women’s team combined event last week.

She failed to finish her run after straddling the gate, but made headlines after receiving the gloves of Team USA’s Mikaela Shiffrin.

On Saturday (14 February), D’Antonio was training ahead of the women’s giant slalom on Wednesday (18 February), before suffering a crash that will rule her out of the Games.

An MRI scan confirmed a sprain to her right knee, with a rupture to the ACL.

The federation also confirmed that D’Antonio’s condition would be further evaluated by its Medical Commission, which will provide a definitive assessment.
