Mark Stone caps impressive first period with shorthanded goal

Tom Wilson, Devon Toews and Mark Stone scored first period goals to give Canada a 3-1 advantage over the France after the opening 20 minutes.

Wilson, power forward for the Washington Capitals, scored his first career Olympic goal off a Drew Doughty rebounds at the 8:41 mark. Connor McDavid also picked up another assist on the play.

The French answered back quickly when Floran Douay found the back of the net just 13 seconds later.

The tie game didn’t last long as Colorado Avalanche defender Toews scoring at the 9:33 mark with assists coming from Sidney Crosby and Avs teammate Cal Makar.

Vegas Golden Knights veteran forward Mark Stone scored his second of the tournament on a shorthanded breakaway with just four seconds remaining in the period.

Canada outshout France 17-6 in the frame.

The Canadians have already locked up top spot in Group A.
