Yellowjackets is ready to stream for free but fans are already questioning just how long the teens were stuck in the wilderness for. Paramount+’s Yellowjackets will be attracting an entirely new audience with the first two series finally dropping on ITV’s free streamer ITVX.

As fans begin to binge-watch the thriller, the unfolding narrative is gradually revealing what occurred next in the Canadian wilderness during the 1990s timeline, as well as how the characters’ lives have progressed since their escape. However, a number of questions remain unanswered, including whether a formidable force exists in the wild, who survived and perished, and who could be the next victim.

Yellowjackets timeline explained

Yellowjackets narrates the tale of a high school girls’ football team that must do whatever it takes to survive after their plane crashes into the Canadian wilderness on their way to the Nationals. The series oscillates between 1996 and the present day, revealing that the teenagers were marooned for 19 months with various hints throughout the series indicating the length of the team’s ordeal.

It’s mentioned that the girls had to forgo their prom to attend the Nationals, which typically occurs in May.By the final episodes, snow is falling and there’s talk of a sinister “doomcoming” party, a twisted take on the traditional October homecoming celebrations.

It’s suggested that Shauna (played by Sophie Nelisse) may have fallen pregnant just before the crash, and in the season finale, she’s seen battling to fit into her “doomcoming” outfit. These clues indicate the first series encompasses roughly five to six months of the survival ordeal.

In contrast, the second season covers a more condensed period, estimated at four to five months, which includes a two-month jump from the end of the first series.

This is confirmed when Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown) references Shauna’s continued conversations with Jackie’s (Ella Purnell) remains over several months.

Additionally, as Shauna experiences labour pains and the group engages in morning meditation, it’s calculated that approximately nine months have elapsed since the crash.

Another time jump takes place between seasons two and three, shifting from a winter setting to a summer one, indicating several months have gone by.

So far though, ITVX fans have only been treated to series one and two but series three is ready to watch on Paramount+.

It was revealed in a bittersweet update that Yellowjackets would be back for a fourth outing but this will be the survival thriller’s last.

Yellowjackets is available to watch on ITVX and Paramount+.
