‘Tell Me Lies’ ending after Season 3 finale, creator confirms

Grace Van Patten on intimacy coordinators and acting with boyfriend Jackson White

Grace Van Patten shares how intimacy coordinators ensure safety on the “Tell Me Lies” set and what it’s like acting alongside her real-life boyfriend.

It’s time to say goodbye to the most toxic fictional boyfriend to ever grace our TV screens, Stephen DeMarco.

“Tell Me Lies” creator and showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer confirmed ahead of the Season 3 finale on Monday, Feb. 16, that the show will not be renewed for a fourth season.

“After three amazing seasons of Tell Me Lies, tonight’s episode will be the series finale. This was always the ending my writing team and I had in mind, and we are insanely proud of it,” Oppenheimer wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the cast. “Your incredible response to this season inspired us to explore whether there was another organic way to continue the story, but ultimately we felt it had reached its natural conclusion.”

“Tell Me Lies,” based on Carola Lovering’s 2018 novel of the same name and created for television by Oppenheimer, has captured a passionate fanbase of readers of the book and series-only viewers alike over its too-realistic portrayal of the toxic ex or situationship in Stephen and Lucy, played by Grace Van Patten, who won’t quit each other, no matter how low their relationship goes.

Oppenheimer wrote that her “main goal has always been to protect the quality of the show and give you the best experience I can give you.”

“And so, while it is bittersweet to leave something that has been such a happy experience, I am very grateful that we are able to tell a complete story with an intentional ending – a privilege very few shows get,” she continued. “Thank you for loving our show. We are excited to bring you more stories in the near future.”

“Tell Me Lies” stars Grace Van Patten (Lucy), Jackson White (Stephen DeMarco), Cat Missal (Bree), Spencer House (Wrigley), Sonia Mena (Pippa), Branden Cook (Evan) and Alicia Crowder (Diana). Season 3 saw the new addition of series regular Costa D’Angelo (Alex).

Meaghan Oppenheimer recently teased ‘Tell Me Lies’ ending

In a previous interview with USA TODAY, Oppenheimer said the future of “Tell Me Lies” was anyone’s guess,” adding that the Feb. 16 finale “was always the ending I had pitched and planned for a long time.”

“Once you see Episode 8, certainly some things are wrapped up, and I wanted to leave the fans really satisfied,” Oppenheimer said. “But, you know, right now, we’re just so focused on this season and celebrating it that it’s so hard to know what the future holds.”
