Toss Canada chose to bowl vs Afghanistan

Canada captain, Dilpreet Bajwa, won the toss and chose to bowl in the final match of the tournament for both his team and Afghanistan.

Afghanistan made just one change to their eleven. They dropped Noor Ahmad – he went wicketless for 35 runs in his three overs in their previous match, against UAE, also played in Chennai. Like other matches this World Cup at the venue, the pitch is expected to have bounce and be good for batting once again. Noor will be replaced by right-arm paced Abdollah Ahmadzai.

Afghanistan might have been testing out its combinations, or giving its bench more game-time, but a heartbreaking loss against South Africa in their second match essentially knocked them out in this edition’s group of death. Still, Rashid Khan said his team still had plenty to play for, despite today’s match not being “the kind of end we wanted in this competition… We wanted to be in [the] Super Eight”.

Canada, on the other hand, have brought back left-arm pacer Kaleem Sana in the eleven, after he recovered from a niggle that had kept him out of the previous match. Harsh Thaker makes way for him. The team will also see two of its veterans bow out of the international game today: their leading run-scorer and former captain, Navneet Dhaliwal, and Ravindersingh Paul. The latter did not get a spot in the eleven today.
