13 Going On 30 Reunion In Apple TV’s Returning Thriller Explained By Stars: “I Was Blown Away”

Apple TV is about to be home to a major 13 Going on 30 reunion.

The Last Thing He Told Me stars Jennifer Garner and Judy Greer explain how the pair were able to reunite onscreen for the returning thriller series. Garner is the star on The Last Thing He Told Me, while Greer is joining season 2 as Quinn Favreau, a mysterious newcomer to the story.

In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Ash Crossan for The Last Thing He Told Me season 2, Garner and Greer explained how the latter wound up getting cast in the show. Garner, who serves as an executive producer, suggested to series creator Laura Dave that Greer should portray Quinn, thus reuniting the two actors 22 years later:

Ash Crossan: Tell me, 20 years ago I’m sitting down with Jenna Rink and Lucy Wyman. So were you looking for something to do together for a while?

Judy Greer: I try to bully my way into everything that Jen does, and once in a while I break through!

Ash Crossan: So why was this the perfect thing to do together?

Judy Greer: That’s a question for the universe!

Jennifer Garner: Yes, universe — because Laura Dave wrote an incredible character that needed an amazing actress, and I happened to be an executive producer this time, her boss as well as her friend. So the one thing I used that influence for was getting Rita Wilson as Carol and Judy Greer as Quinn. And boy, was I right. Oh my gosh.

Judy Greer: It was really so exciting to get asked to do this. And then when I found out — which I would have said yes before I read one single word — but when I found out the character I’d be playing, I was just kind of blown away, because I don’t get asked to do this kind of thing very often. It takes someone who really knows you to know what you’re capable of—

Jennifer Garner: How evil you are. [laughter]

As Garner states, she had a hand in getting Greer her role in The Last Thing He Told Me season 2, specifying that she’d be in a villain role opposite her. The series star was also crucial to getting Rita Wilson cast as Carol, playing the mother of Garner’s Hannah. Based on her response, it seems her casting instincts were on point.

Season 1 of the Apple TV original series was adapted from Dave’s novel of the same name. The Last Thing He Told Me season 1 ended where the source material did, offering a mostly definitive finale for the show. Season 2 follows an original story, albeit developed by Dave and her co-developer Josh Singer.

Greer’s The Last Thing He Told Me character remains shrouded in mystery, other than the fact she’ll be heavily involved in what Garner’s protagonist has to deal with next. The plot of season 2 most heavily revolves around Hannah’s husband, Owen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), arriving on the scene, giving the family a chance to finally reunite.

Based on what the two actors had to say, it appears their reunion will be fraught with dramatic tension onscreen. It sounds like Greer’s character won’t be the most forthcoming nor trustworthy, though the finer details remain somewhat mysterious. Either way, season 2 is promising plenty of intense elements, some of which both reuniting actors will be present for.

Since The Last Thing He Told Me season 2 is working off an original story, there’s no telling where Hannah and her family’s tale will end. But Greer’s Quinn is going to be heavily involved, marking an important and worthwhile reunion between the two actors in the process.

The Last Thing He Told Me season 2 begins Friday, February 20 on Apple TV.
