Bob Weeks Picks Six – Genesis Invitational

Last Week: We cashed in on two tickets with Shane Lowry finishing top 10 and Nick Taylor ending up as the top Canadian.

This Week: The tour plays its second consecutive Signature event with a stop at Riviera for the Genesis Invitational. Last year, due to the wildfires, this event was moved to Torrey Pines where Ludvig Aberg took the title. Riviera is much-loved for its intriguing design, and it has also managed to stump the likes of Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, none of whom have a win here. The course is a par-71, 7,384-yard test with the Kikuyu rough grabbing clubs from anyone trying to extract a ball from the deep stuff. The last player to win this tournament on this course was Hideki Matsuyama.

To Win

Tommy Fleetwood +2000

A fifth and a 10th in his last two starts at this tournament, Fleetwood is coming off a tie for fourth at Pebble Beach. Although he only has one start so far, he is second in Strokes Gained: Total with a mark of 2.637. He has the complete game needed to take on Riv.

Hideki Matsuyama +2200

Matsuyama has made four starts and finished inside the top 13 in all four including a tie for eighth last week at Pebble Beach. A leaky driver is the one club keeping him out of the winner’s circle, but it showed signs of life last week.

Top 10

Scottie Scheffler -300

Not great odds being offered and with reason, since Scheffler has been inside the top 10 in his last 18 starts. This is more of a safety bet than anything, if you buy into those.

Ryo Hisatsune +550

At the other end of the scale is Hisatsune, who has finished inside the top 10 in his last three starts. He is playing consistent golf through the bag with a solid Greens in Reg number that will be needed at Riviera.

Top 20

Sam Burns +115

Coming in off a tie for sixth at Pebble Beach last week, Burns finished 10th the last time Riviera hosted this event. He also has a third-place finish in this tournament.

Jason Day +185

The Aussie has been playing steady if not necessarily spectacular golf so far. He finished in ninth place in both of his last two starts at Riviera. Had a tie for second at the American Express a few weeks ago and sits in seventh spot in Strokes Gained: Total. Has been featuring some very solid putting.

Extras

Top European

Good number for a guy playing some solid golf.
