MILAN — Figure skaters Lee Hae-in and Shin Ji-a will compete in the free skate of the women’s singles event at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics on Thursday.
In Tuesday’s short program, Lee ranked ninth with her season-best score of 70.07 points, while Shin finished in 14th place with 65.66 points.
Kim Yu-na, the 2010 women’s singles champion who added a silver in 2014, remains the only South Korean figure skater to have reached an Olympic podium.
Also on Thursday, South Korea will play Canada in its final round-robin match of the women’s curling tournament. The top four nations at the conclusion of the round-robin phase will progress to the semifinals set for Friday.
The election results for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes’ Commission will also be announced Thursday. Won Yun-jong, the 2018 Olympic bobsleigh silver medalist, is bidding to become the third South Korean member of the commission, following former taekwondo champion Moon Dae-sung and ex-table tennis gold medalist and current Korean Sport & Olympic Committee President Ryu Seung-min.
Athletes’ Commission members each have an eight-year term but otherwise have the same rights as other IOC members.
