Portland’s Ajinomoto Foods North America recalls Trader Joe’s frozen chicken fried rice that may contain glass

A Portland company is recalling a beloved frozen Trader Joe’s product after some consumers reported finding glass in their dinner.
Ajinomoto Foods North America — a supplier based in Southeast Portland — just pulled more than 3 million pounds of frozen chicken fried rice due to potential glass contamination. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall Thursday.
Affected items include 20-ounce plastic bags of Trader Joe’s “Chicken Fried Rice with stir fried rice, vegetables, seasoned dark chicken meat and eggs.”
Those bags were shipped to Trader Joe’s locations nationwide, according to the recall, and include “Best By” dates of Sept. 8 through Nov. 17, 2026.

The recall was initiated after four customers reported finding glass in the product, according to the notice. No confirmed injuries have been reported.
Consumers should not eat the product and either throw it away or return it to its place of purchase for a full refund. Those with questions can contact Ajinomoto Foods North America at (855) 742-5011 or [email protected].
