These two came down together at the end of last season but it’s fair to say they are experiencing very different emotions right now.
Cardiff’s progress at the top of League One has been pretty serene – the most potent attack and the joint-best defensive record paints a picture which doesn’t really need you to refer to the table.
For the record, they are four points clear at the top and 12 points ahead of third place; barring a huge collapse they will be back in the Championship sooner rather than later.
Plymouth’s season has been more eventful, for the wrong reasons.
Argyle may now be closer to the play-offs than the relegation zone, but it was only as far back as New Year’s Day when they were in the bottom four.
There is still the prospect of a possible Wembley appearance in the EFL Trophy, but you feel those in Devon would happily swap places with their Welsh visitors for a shot at a swift return to the second tier.
